Auction in Newsletter 5. Information from Shop Manager 1. IPPIN Guide -James B Lansing(JBL) Speaker System Hi-Fi Do abounds with JBL products but it is the first time that speaker system of James B Lansing arrived our shop. James B Lansing founded JBL and James B Lansing SOUND . INC. is the predecessor of JBL. Mr. Kondo in Kyoto will introduce the feature of JBL. Hearts Field was the popular large speaker produced by JBL in 1950s and it was praised as "The speaker in dream" in Life magazine in 1955. It was most excellent speaker and the triangle shape was the trademark of JBL. This speaker shows that JBL followed James B Lansing. EVEREST DD55000 and S3100 are the same. Triangle design of stylish speaker proves them to be JBL ‘s ones. The sound of JBL with luxurious equipments in 1950s was created by James B Lansing. Hearts Field contributed to JBL’s golden age in 1950s and it got high reputation. However, skilled craftsman could make the complex enclosure and it was said this type enclosure were reduced gradually on the decrease of craftsmen. Such large speaker were terrific to compare with general typed speaker with woofer at present. Woofer 130A as typical unit made 2 ways system with compression driver 175 and 375. Comment and photos are as shown below: http://www.hifido.co.jp/merumaga/ippin/041119/indexe.html The followings are the record of Hearts Field: 3. CD Picks of the week "Piano & Shamisen" I am a guest instead of Ms. Cappuccino because she is busy this week. The feature of the week is "Japanese taste". Mr. Kondo recommends "Tokyo" by Akiko Grace. I recommend "Sho" by Shinichi Kinoshita . This CD includes traditional numbers of Tsugaru Shamisen and it makes different impression compared to the CD introduced last week. http://www.hifido.co.jp/merumaga/koncappu/041119/indexe.html 3. Walking around Akihabara I went to Hi-Fi Do because CEC CD player was delivered to Akihabara shop. I asked the manager, "Has CD player already arrived ?" He replied "Yes, I set it and demonstrate for you right now." He set it with Tube amplifier and JBL speaker. It sounded well and looked nice. I decided to buy it immediately. I looked around several parts shops at Akihabara during packing. I hastened home and set it in order to try. CEC player sounded sensitive but less powerful to compared with Marantz one which I usually used. It looked luxurious to put stabilizer on it instead of tray. I didn’t tell it was good or bad because amplifier and speaker composed a set were quite different from those of Hi-Fi Do. I decided to trade away Marantz player while I heard CEC player for one hour. I called and asked Hi- Fi Do to buy it. The staff said, "Bring it anytime. We will offer good price." Hi-Fi Do would buy it at a good price because it is still new and in good condition. To be continued. 3.
