My Audio and Jazz History - "ACOUSTIC REVIVE SIP-8 Short Pins" - By Kenji Kondo (No.24. July 22) This week I would like to report on the ACOUSTIC REVIVE SIP-8 short pins that I have started to use. I have been a regular user of ACOUSTIC REVIVE products. The main reasons why I appreciate their products are that they are distinguished by unique concepts, high cost performance, and most importantly, the assured sound quality that suits my taste. |

The digital and analog input terminals on an audio unit are not only exposed to dust or dirt, but they could also be the sources of noise inclusion. The terminals serve as a sort of an antenna to attract noise and thereby degrade the S/N ratio and the sound quality significantly. By short-circuiting these input terminals, noise inclusion can be prevented. By so doing, the factors for instability of electricity on the earth side could also be eliminated, the operation of circuits in a unit stabilized, and the source impedance improved. As a result, the sound quality could improve remarkably. As another concern, the board thickness in the terminal section of an audio unit usually is often so thin that it is weak in strength and very susceptible to vibrations. If high-density and high-rigidity materials are used in short pins, the area around terminals could be reinforced to suppress vibrations and consequently improve the sound quality impressively. The SIP-8 uses materials that excel in sound quality and vibration suppression. Specifically, it employs brass +2017 and flight level aluminum alloy. The acoustical and anti-vibratory characteristics of these materials are such that they add to the strength of the area around the terminals and the effects of vibration suppression. Besides, the SIP-8 is completely nonmagnetic in structure, as typified by the use of direct gold plating. This nonmagnetic design roots out any factors for sound degradation which results from the magnetostriction of magnetic materials. |

I used the Mclntosh C40 to check the effects of the SIP-8 on the sound quality. At first, I tried the SIP-8 on the AUX terminal. As a result, the sound quality improved more than I had expected. I first reviewed Trio Montmartre's "Scandinavian Reminiscence" (VACY-1037). Improvements were seen in the S/N ratio and the clearness of sound with a quicker response in the plummy sound of the bass and an enhanced braking force. The resulting sound was so brilliant that it provides powerfulness, exquisiteness, and high resolution in combination. Next, I tried the SIP-8 on the PHONO terminal and was amazed at the reproduction of a much higher sound quality than on the AUX terminal. I felt that even greater effects could be expected if the SIP-8 pins were inserted into the neighboring terminals where signals are input. I would advise that the SIP-8 be tried out carefully on each input terminal to ascertain which input terminals could provide the best sound that suits your taste. I believe that's worth a try. Note: The SIP-8 must not be used on output terminals. |
